John Preston, President

John was born in England and moved to Brisbane in 1984 with his Brisbane born wife.  His working background is in Retail, Radio and Railways.  He started in retail in the UK with WHSmith and continued in retail on moving to Australia, including work for Myer, Chandlers, Fone Zone and Clive Peeters.  His many roles included Store Management and Training and Recruitment.  His radio involvement included Community Radio in the UK, too young to be a Pirate Radio participant in the 1960’s unfortunately!

On moving to Australia, he volunteered for Reading Radio then worked at Stereo 10 in Brisbane, 4MB in Maryborough and 1071AM in Kingaroy both on air and in Sales Management.

Since re-joining Reading Radio, John has been a co-host and presents the weekly Number 1 rated show Mojo Magazine music program (ratings not sighted)

John retired in 2023 from his role as a Train Guard with Queensland Rail.

John enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, listening to music, bike riding and reading Jack Reacher books.

Rod Banfield, Vice President

Rodney has been co-host/announcer at Reading Radio for several years now.

He finds volunteering at the station an agreeable symbiotic relationship between reader and listener. The delivery of the written word on air to those who benefit.  And keeping the little grey cells in an aging brain gainfully engaged. Rod has few hobbies or interests of any real significance- save perhaps observing the lives and habitats of bugs and critters out in the wetlands and in the bush.

Meg Venning, Treasurer

Meg is an experienced risk management and governance professional. Her career spanning three decades has been focussed on achieving outcomes that meet organisational goals through applying risk and governance processes. She is also a qualified accounting professional.

Meg has been volunteering for Reading Radio for the past several years, as an announcer. Hosting the popular Tuesday Morning Show from 9-am-12pm. In addition, Meg produces and stars in our ‘Famous Australians’ program, which showcases the lives of amazing Australians.

She is committed to supporting the community through volunteer work and is proud to be associated with Reading Radio.

Kathleen Lilley, Secretary

Dr Kathleen Lilley (nee Ahrens)
I was born in Murwillumbah, NSW in 1957. I grew up in Chinderah, on the Tweed River and attended primary school in Tweed Heads and Coolangatta. I attended boarding school in Brisbane. During school and university holidays, I worked as a shop assistant in a pharmacy
in Coolangatta and as a waitress and house maid at Greenmount Guest House until I graduated from Physiotherapy.

I worked as an academic in Public Health at Griffith University. With the benefit of an Australian Award in 2011, I became a full-time PhD candidate and was able to carry out my research on global citizenship in Europe, where I spent 4-months living in Hamburg and travelling for my research. After completing my PhD in 2013, I worked as a Guest Editor and Reviewer for an academic journal.

I now work as a voluntary co-host for Reading Radio, as needed for the Breakfast Show, each Thursday for the Drive Time program and I am part of the Opinion Pages Program team.

Marina Marangos, Board Member

Old-ish in years but a young Australian, I have embraced so much of what Australia excels at.

Giving back to the Community is central to my life and I do this at Reading Radio, supporting Guide Dogs, being a Pyjama Angel to fostered children while enjoying nature, our honey making bees and the theatre. My Greek Cypriot Heritage and my legal background are additional areas of interest for me. I am a writer and blogger in my spare time.
