As more COVID-19 restrictions are being lifted, all L-platers can book their provisional drivers test as of today (13).
Examinations for learner drivers were suspended in March due to the pandemic. Social distancing regulations meant that the driving tests could not be administered. Many potential drivers had already booked their test, leaving Queensland transport with a backlog of customers.
“Now, thanks to the efforts of our hard-working driving examiners and because Queenslanders have done such a good job stopping the spread of coronavirus, we can take bookings for all learner drivers,” says Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey.
Mr Bailey said mandatory screening questions, vehicle cleaning requirements and reinforcement of health and hygiene measures would remain in place as regular testing resumed.
Queensland Transport has stated that health and safety remain the priority. The measures that have been put in place to protect applicants and driving examiners are as follows:
• mandatory screening for test participants
• vehicle cleaning requirements
• reinforcement of general health and hygiene measures.
More good news for L-platers that might be struggling financially, is that the fee for the examination will continue to be waived until mid-September. This includes the renewal of learners permits that have expired.
“We are doing everything we can to meet the demand for tests while making sure the safety of staff and customers remains our top priority,” says Mr Bailey.
Queensland Transport has stated that you can currently only book your test over the phone as they are experiencing a volume of applicants. To book a test for yourself, call 13 23 80 from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday.
