Nominations are now open for Brisbane’s second annual WasteSmart awards, managed by Brisbane Sustainability Agency on behalf of the Brisbane City Council.

The WasteSmart Awards are intended to acknowledge the efforts of individuals, community groups, schools, kindergartens, and businesses as they strive to educate and participate in measures to minimise landfill.

“This year, there have eight award categories, 11 awards and a prize pool worth more than $4000. In addition, a new category has also been introduced — the ‘Outstanding WasteSMART Award’ — for those who have made their waste reduction consistent for more than three years,” Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said.

Nominations are open until September 3rd, 2021.

The WasteSmart Award categories are:

  • WasteSMART Community Award
  • WasteSMART Business Award
  • WasteSMART Early Learning Award
  • WasteSMART Schools Award
  • Outstanding WasteSMART Award
  • Councillors’ WasteSMART Choice Award
  • People’s Choice WasteSMART Award

A panel of industry experts will determine finalists and winners. The ‘People’s Choice WasteSmart Award’ will be voted by the public between the 4th and the 15th of October.

The WasteSmart Award winners will be announced in a ceremony at City Hall in November.
