Brisbane City Council expects to support more than 3000 jobs with their future infrastructure projects for the city.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said he remains focused on delivering jobs and infrastructure right through 2021 as Queensland continues to recover from the economic impacts of the global coronavirus pandemic.

“This year we have major works happening right across the city from breaking ground for green bridges, Brisbane Metro and Victoria Park alongside the delivery of several other major projects,” Cr Schrinner said.

The Lord Mayor has stated that in 2021 residents will see both small and large changes in Brisbane: from suburban intersection upgrades – which use local materials and support dozens of jobs – to the extensive Brisbane Metro Project, which will support 2600 jobs.

“We are getting on with delivering the fast-tracked Green Bridges at Kangaroo Point, and Breakfast Creek and residents can expect to see works begin by the end of the year, with these two projects to support more than 400 jobs,” Cr Schrinner said.

Local benefits would be felt outside of the immediate project teams and contractors, with materials and resources sourced locally across various projects.

“These projects have a positive flow-on impact for local business, with materials like piling liners from Wacol, concrete resources from Kelvin Grove to signage at Coorparoo being sourced locally as part of these works happening 2021,” he said.

Another flagship expected to tackle Brisbane’s most congested roads is the Road Action program. City Projects Office is delivering a wide range of significant and minor intersection and corridor improvement projects.
